Worship

Congregation Beth Tikvah is a member of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Beth Tikvah was founded as and continues to be a fully egalitarian synagogue with men and women having equal access to the bimah. The responsibilities for men and women called to the bimah during services are identical with head covering and tallesim being required.

Invite your friends and family to celebrate whatever special occasion you would like. Rabbi Nathan will announce the sponsors and their Simcha. The Oneg will be provided by one of our kosher bakeries and will include coffee, tea, soda and assorted pastries.

Shabbat Services

Fridays at 7:30 pm

We come together in joy and in song on Friday evenings to welcome the Sabbath.  Rabbi Nathan and Cantor Lebovic blend familiar and new tunes, poetry, and timely readings into a spiritual and uplifting workship service.  Join us afer services as congregants mingle and nosh.

Services are often enhanced on Friday evenings with special programming from one of our synagogue groups:  TLC – the Tikvah Learning Community, Men’s Club, Sisterhood, Social Action and others.  Our B’nai Mitzvah also help to lead services as part of their Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration.  Monthly at our Zemer Shabbat, we are joined by our Tikvah Tones choir.

Saturdays at 9:30 am

Join us on Shabbat morning for joyous and participatory services. First time?  You are sure to be offered an Aliyah to the Torah, or another honor.  Torah discussions are interactive and lovely.  Often, we celebrate life cycle events such as B’nai Mitzvah, Aufrufs, and Baby Namings.  We often hold Shabbat Yoga in another room.

Most weeks, there is a Kiddush luncheon following the service. Congregants and guests are encouraged to stay, nosh, and schmooze during Kiddush lunch.

Minyanim

Our weekday minyan prayer service is not only participatory, but friendly and inviting as well.  Many attend weekday Minyan to have additional opportunities to Daven (pray), to say Mourner’s Kaddish, to enable others to say Mourner’s Kaddish, or to enjoy the sense of community among the regular participants (and the bagels an conversation that follow).

Minyan is held:

  • Monday and Thursday at 7:00 am
  • Sunday at 9:10 am when school is in session

Large Print Siddurim are available. Please see an usher when you arrive.

Festival Services

Services for both days of the Festival Holidays – Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Passover and Shavuot – are held at 9:30 am and include Yizkor Services (Memorial Services) on the last day of each holiday, as well as on Yom Kippur.

Services for the High Holidays are held off site, in a venue large enough to accommodate all who wish to join us, including extended family. We encourage children to sit in the main sanctuary with their parents or to attend our alternate age appropriate services which run simultaneously.

Congregants participate in services in many ways, including ark openings, carrying and holding the torahs, reading torah, and saying the blessings at the torah. In addition, congregants act as ushers throughout the services.

More information about High Holiday services can be found here.

Special Services or Programs

Monthly Tot Shabbat

Join us for a kid-friendly Shabbat experience! With free Shabbat meals prepared by various committees across the congregation, come experience Shabbat with other young families at Beth Tikvah. Together, we learn and recite the blessings, eat a yummy meal, hear a story, sing, dance, and pray. This takes place monthly on Fridays from 6:00-7:15 pm, for our youngest kids through the 2nd grade.  Please  RSVP to cbtfamilies@gmail.com

Zemer Shabbat and Rebbe’s Tisch

Once per month, join us on Friday evenings for a songful and experimental Shabbat experience.  The service is co-led by Rabbi Nathan Weiner, Cantor Joseph Lebovic, and our Tikvah Tones choir. Stay following the service for a Shabbat experience like no other: our monthly Rebbe’s Tisch. Bang on the tables and sing Shabbat Zemirot (songs), do a L’Chaim, nosh on delicious desserts, share about joys in your life from the previous month, and learn some mystical teachings.

Shabbat Morning Torah Study

Join us on special Shabbat mornings just before services at 8:45 am for an in-depth and lively text study. We meet in the synagogue Beit Midrash (library), and move word-by-word through the Torah. The group began in 2016, with participants using different translations and commentaries to help extract meaning and lively conversation.  It is led by Rabbi Nathan, often with input from Cantor Joseph Lebovic. You do not need any Hebrew skills or prior knowledge to participate! All are welcome. Stay for Shabbat morning services beginning at 9:30 am. For more information, please email Rabbi Nathan at rabbinathan@btikvah.org.
