Adult Education

Beth Tikvah offers a robust line-up of learning opportunities that are engaging and meaningful.  There is no charge for any of these programs, and members and non-members are welcome to participate.

A sampling of programs is below:

  • Torah learning – No Hebrew skills or prior knowledge are needed to participate.
  • Torah Study – An in-depth and lively text study led by Rabbi Nathan and Cantor Lebovic, moving word-by-word through the Torah on Saturday morning, prior to Shabbat services.
  • Lunch and Learn – A briskly moving Saturday morning Shabbat service, three times during the year, followed by a luncheon and an hour’s discussion on lessons from the Parashat.
  • Donuts and Daven – Four times a year, Beth Tikvah offers a relaxed Saturday morning Shabbat service held in the Social Hall, where we munch as we learn.
  • Tea and Torah – This weekly afternoon program takes place with Rabbi Nathan, from October through May.
  • Book Club – Individuals meet four times each year at congregants’ homes on weekday evenings to discuss fiction and nonfiction, with Jewish content and/or by Jewish authors, some of whom are Beth Tikvah congregants.
  • Sendrow Series – Named after the late Beth Tikvah congregants Florence and Arthur Sendrow, who were dedicated to lifelong learning, this lecture series takes place several times each year and brings in outside speakers on topics of interest. This year’s focus will be on different perspectives relating to aging, including aging parents and death and dying.
  • Boot Camps – Four-week mini courses on the Hebrew language and Jewish law will be offered this year.
  • Israeli dancing – Get your dancing shoes ready and stay tuned for dates.
